MAXWELL'S DEMON Revisited

Added on by Patrick Greene.

Just a quick note: I got the chance to hear MAXWELL’S DEMON (a demonically difficult trio I composed for Stuart Terrett back in October 2010) performed again at the Fifth Floor Collective’s season closer, “Season in Review”, at the Lily Pad last week.

We had a much better turnout than the first two concerts of the season, and we’ve got high hopes for our next one! Be on the lookout for some adventurous programming when Season 2 gets underway in the fall.

We’re hoping to do a Collective concert of some kind during the summer as well, so stay tuned!

Thanks so much to all of you who’ve consistently supported us over the last year and-a-half. We’re truly honored, and hope to bring you music for years to come.

Sounding It Out - success!

Added on by Patrick Greene.

Thanks so much to everyone who made it out to my Trinity lecture last week. It was very successful, and managed to pack the Alumni Lounge to capacity even while facing some serious competition (like oh, say, an enormous rally that was covered by numerous media outlets happening about 45 feet away).

Also, I had the honor of dropping in on Prof. John Platoff’s 20th Century Music class the next day. The students had wonderful questions for me, and the whole experience left a smile on my face that still hasn’t faded.

The “Sounding It Out” lecture will be podcasted shortly, and I’ll (of course) be posting it up here for all of you.

Thanks for all of the support!

New commission from Boston Musica Viva!

Added on by Patrick Greene.

I'm extremely happy to announce a new commission from Richard Pittman, founder and Music Director of the phenomenal Boston Musica Viva!

The piece will be for the BMV core ensemble, percussion ensemble, and a narrator, and will likely be based on some sort of fairy tale. The piece will be featured alongside a work by Michael Gandolfi at the BMV's 2012 Family Concert in Boston. There will be numerous updates on this project as it evolves, so be sure to check back in periodically!

The percussion ensemble will be Marimba Magic, a remarkable group of young musicians based at The Rivers Music School in Weston, MA. I've heard a lot about them---I'm very much looking forward to collaborating!

The narrator is TBA.

Check out this year's Family Concert this coming Sunday, February 6, at the Tsai Center for the Performing Arts at Boston University. Curtis K. Hughes (a former professor of mine, and a truly remarkable composer) will have a piece premiered alongside the evergreen Peter and the Wolf of Prokofiev.
